About the Race
The brand-new Cape Point Triathlon, hosted in historic & picturesque Simon's Town, will happen on 25th October 2026! Ultra, Standard, and Sprint distance races, solo or in teams, ensures accessibility for athletes of all experience levels, from first-time participants to elite competitors. With both the swim and finish line located in Simon's Town, the event will create a vibrant race atmosphere in the heart of the old town that was established in 1743.
You have probably visited Boulders Beach to enjoy the penguin colony living among the enormous Seychelles-style rocks where turquoise water laps white sand beaches. You have very likely ridden the Cape Town Cycle Tour through the buzzing naval village of Simon's Town, passing dreamy coves, then up the spectacular Smitswinkel climb with False Bay spread out below, past Cape Point Nature Reserve and the ostrich farm with acres of unspoiled fynbos and occasionally sighted whales & baboons. You may have even run the Redhill or Peninsula marathons along the flat coastal road from Fish Hoek through Glencairn. It's a beautiful unpolluted space, only 30 minutes from Cape Town, where everyone from surfers to antique shoppers and tourists flock on weekends to stroll, take rock pool dips and eat on the colourful pavements to music.
The racing action kicks off on a Kona-style jetty, packed with bikes, ready to ride. After racking, swimmers walk down the stairs into the protected, calm, clear shallow blue water to start their best day outside playing swim-bike-run. With crowds lining the shoreline and packed restaurants, we swim out toward Long Beach, past the naval base where marines have been training for centuries. A one-lap swim leads back into the yacht basin where warships dominate the skyline at sunrise, then it's back up the stairs and onto the bikes.
The bike course needs no introduction. For over 40 years, it has been the course of the biggest timed bike race on the planet. An undulating first portion, then you climb quite a bit while enjoying the views on 'Smits' — but nothing very steep. Then it's well over 50km/h in parts, so get ready to fly back through scenery that God designed to help you forget about your legs! Out past Cape Point with more head-down power undulations, then turn at the drink station at the base of Red Hill above Scarborough before you storm back home on the opposite side of the closed road.
Once you're back on the jetty and into the run, head south past the Admiral's residence and take the flat, fast run along the shore of Long Beach towards Glencairn. A quick cold drink at the turnaround at the Lower North Navy Battery, where cannons are ready to fire at enemy craft, then back towards the Simon's Town harbour. If you're doing two or three laps, the crowd noise and music at Jubilee Square will welcome you home as a hero.
Too many delightful restaurants to choose from and loads of quaint old and new accommodations to stay — this will be an active weekend away to cherish for life.
